News Release: Regarding August 6th Michigan Marriage Amendment Oral Arguments
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Lansing, Mich.)—Michigan Catholic Conference released the following statement in advance of tomorrow’s scheduled hearing in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit regarding the 2004 voter-approved Michigan Marriage Amendment:
“With fidelity to Pope Francis’ recent comment ‘We must reaffirm the right of children to grow up in a family with a father and a mother…’ Michigan Catholic Conference will continue to support the state’s defense of the voter-approved Michigan Marriage Amendment. For the sake of future generations and to uphold the common good for all of society, the Catholic Church recognizes and teaches that marriage is rooted in natural law and as such cannot be redefined. By no means should the Catholic Church’s teaching in support of natural marriage between one man and one woman diminish the dignity or sensitivity that must be afforded to all human persons, regardless of their orientation.”
Michigan Catholic Conference is the official public policy voice of the Catholic Church in this state.
