News Release: Michigan Catholic Conference Applauds Defeat of Death Penalty Legislation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LANSING—The following statement was issued today by Paul A. Long, Vice President, Public Policy for the Michigan Catholic Conference, on the defeat of the death penalty proposal, House Joint Resolution H.
“Today’s vote by the Michigan House of Representatives is a victory for life over the culture of death.
“We applaud those members of the House who voted to preserve Michigan’s constitution by voting against House Joint Resolution H.
“The proponents of death failed to receive even one third of the vote, let alone the two-thirds necessary for passage. This should send a clear message to others who seek to radically change Michigan’s constitution.”
Michigan Catholic Conference is the official public policy voice of the Catholic Church in this state.
