Youth Employment
Employing anyone under 18 years of age requires a work permit to be presented by the youth. These work permits can be obtained from your local school district office.
There are many restrictions which apply to youth employment. Those that typically fall into our general operations include:
- Minimum age for employment is 14.
- No one under 16 can operate power driven lawn mowers or cutters.
- A minor shall not be employed for more than 48 hours a week. If still in school, the school time is included in the maximum hours.
These requirements are summarized from the Michigan Department of Labor, Legal Requirements Governing Employment of Minors.
