Lansing Update: Michigan Catholic Bishops Meet With State Lawmakers in Lansing
Posted December 5, 2025
Earlier this fall, Michigan Catholic Conference hosted a reception in Lansing at the state Capitol for the Catholic bishops in the state to meet with state representatives, senators, and their staff.

From time to time, MCC organizes legislative receptions to allow bishops the opportunity to engage directly with state lawmakers, including those who represent districts within their dioceses.

With frequent turnover in the state Legislature due to term limits, and bishops being appointed to a new diocese from time to time, events such as these are helpful for both bishops and legislators to build a relationship with one another.
The most recent MCC legislative reception before this one occurred in 2019. In the past seven years, four new bishops have been appointed to lead Michigan dioceses. State lawmakers can serve a total of 12 years between the House or the Senate.
This year’s event drew dozens of current legislators and staff, as well as nearly every bishop in Michigan, providing ample opportunities for the bishops to speak with lawmakers.

MCC is governed by a board of directors, which consists of the seven arch/diocesan Catholic bishops in Michigan, as well as an additional seven members comprised of lay Catholics, clergy, and religious members.
