(Lansing, Mich.) — Michigan Catholic Conference President and CEO Paul A. Long offered the following reflection today regarding the death of United States Senator Carl Levin:

“Upon learning of the death of U.S. Senator Carl Levin, Michigan Catholic Conference offers prayers for the repose of the senator’s soul together with sympathy and condolences for his family.

“As the longest-serving United States Senator from the Great Lakes state, Senator Levin possessed a keen and widely respected reputation for foreign affairs. May his immense passion for justice be an opportunity for divergent political views to find common ground and a focal point both for those in elected office and our broader society to uphold and promote the dignity of all people. Senator Levin held the Catholic community in this state in high esteem and was always considerate toward the Michigan Catholic Conference.

“A luminary in the Jewish community, Senator Levin now secures his place in the annals of Michigan political history. May God rest his soul.”

Michigan Catholic Conference is the official public policy voice of the Catholic Church in this state.
